Policies for Donations of Artifacts: Inclusion of new artifacts into the Everett Museum of History’s collection is at the Curators’ discretion. A thorough evaluation process is completed for all artifacts that are offered to the museum and the Curators are tasked with making the ultimate decision on all new accessions.

With over 35 years of experience in museum collections, the Curators put each new artifact through a stringent assessment for addition into the museum’s collections. These steps include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing all legal contracts, rights and reproductions, provenance and any other legal issues that may limit how the museum can utilize the artifact
  • Evaluating the artifact against the museum’s mission statement
  • Confirming that the artifact can be safely and securely stored with other artifacts in the collection, i.e., if the artifact could endanger other artifacts, people, or the environment because of a myriad issues, such as hazardous materials, agents of deterioration, or instability
  • Researching the existing collection to ensure the new accession is not redundant or that the museum does not have a better example
  • Weighing the needs of the artifact against the needs of the collection as a whole from both a fiduciary and basic resource standpoint.

The Museum and its curatorial staff strive to make the best decisions possible for the acceptance of new artifacts into the museum collection; decisions that benefit the collection, the museum mission, the community we serve, and our role as caretakers of these artifacts for future generations.

Policies for Potential Volunteers: Volunteers are a tremendous resource for the museum and without them we would not be able to do all that we do for the community. We strive to create a great experience for both our volunteers and staff by evaluating each volunteer to properly match their skills and interests with the department which will most benefit from them and vice versa.

Every volunteer is expected to:

  • Understand and support the purpose, structure, and policies of the Everett Museum of History and the volunteer program
  • Offer the use of their special skills or experience
  • Conduct themselves in accordance with the policy standards of conduct and ethics of the Museum
  • Complete any orientation, training course, or on-the-job training that is required before beginning work in the Museum
  • Endeavor to be flexible in accepting assignments
  • Perform assigned responsibilities willingly and courteously to the best of their ability
  • Accept the guidance of their manager or supervisor
  • Comply with the scheduling and dress requirements of the Museum
  • Obey all security and safety rules
  • Respect the confidentiality of sensitive or proprietary information
  • Provide timely notification to the supervisor or manager of absences or termination
  • Serve as a goodwill ambassador in the community on behalf of the Museum
