Donate an Artifact

History is happening now and is all around us. The Everett Museum of History actively acquires and collects artifacts for to enhance our narrative and maintain our status as the main repository of Everett’s history. The primary objective of our acquisition process is to actively acquire contemporary and historical artifacts to educate our visitors on Everett’s unique sense of place.

Policies for Donations of Artifacts: Inclusion of new artifacts into the Everett Museum of History’s collection is at the Curators’ discretion. A thorough evaluation process is completed for all artifacts that are offered to the museum and the Curators are tasked with making the ultimate decision on all new accessions.

The collections staff put each new artifact through a stringent assessment for addition into the museum’s collections. These steps include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing all legal contracts, rights and reproductions, provenance and any other legal issues that may limit how the museum can utilize the artifact
  • Evaluating the artifact against the museum’s mission statement
  • Confirming that the artifact can be safely and securely stored with other artifacts in the collection, i.e., if the artifact could endanger other artifacts, people, or the environment because of a myriad issues, such as hazardous materials, agents of deterioration, or instability
  • Researching the existing collection to ensure the new accession is not redundant or that the museum does not have a better example
  • Weighing the needs of the artifact against the needs of the collection as a whole from both a fiduciary and basic resource standpoint.

The Museum and its collections staff strive to make the best decisions possible for the acceptance of new artifacts into the museum collection; decisions that benefit the collection, the Museum mission, the community we serve, and our role as caretakers of these artifacts for future generations.
